Moonwatcher on Indy 5?

Welcome Kirsty! (try registering rather than posting as a guess it might make the process less painful in future)

I do think we need to remember how unbelievable the first 3 Indy films were at times too to correctly judge indy 4. I know Onlion agrees with you on the fridge scene Wilson, however it really wasn't the first ridiculous scene in an indy film:

- 'spirits' flying out of the arc of the covenant and killing everybody (almost) - this kind of religious gesture is quite a leap of faith!

- Indy is put under a mind controling trance by drinking some blood potion - again, quite a niche bellief but perhaps the most possible out of these.

- the mine cart run! however fun and awesome that scene is we have to surly believe it is only luck that lets them live? (the same luck involved in surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge?)

- We see a 600+year old _living_ Medievill Knight protecting the Holy Grail

- They find the Holy Grail that somehow instantly heals Indy's mate (Henry?) from certain, shot in the chest, death

This is all ignoring the fact that Indy is just a flipping Lecturer at an American University who has a penchant for Archeology!

Not that i think any of the above are bad, i just think that the fridge scene was actually quite in keeping with the series of getting progressively more bizarre and actually more and more lucky! I think this is one point to why people love Indy, he is probably the luckiest guy on the planet that seemingly has more lives than a cat while maintaining a bit of chivalry while hes at it! He often substitutes skill for brute force or a bit of madcap comic 'falling over' to get out of tight spots.

I'm with you Kirsty in that i would prefer to have Indy looking for more traditional artifacts than supernatural ones! And perhaps that woman was thrown back in a bit quick, it just seemed like they needed to protect the longevity of the franchise with the introduction of the 'new' indy. I suppose it is a money making business after all, maybe they could have used a little more subtlety!

I was having a conversation about this with a guy at work this morning, and il say the same thing to you as i did to him:

HE SURVIVES A NUCLEAR BLAST BY HIDING IN A FRIDGE.

That just about sums up my feelings on the issue. I really dont wanna sound miserable but my god, Spielberg was being sold some seriously dodgy weed around the time the screenplay was written for Indy 4.

Also, for an Indy 5 it means that Shia will have to drag himself away from Megan Fox for a while... I wouldnt bother personally ;D

Have you seen her in Leicester square last night? Dear Lord.

I did not like the last Indiana movie. I don't think they should make a new one unless they are going to return to the old format of Indie finding lost (human) treasures and not things from other worlds. I didn't like the Indie-E.T. hybrid. The Indie getting back with that woman in the blink of an eye was plain weird and I didn't think too much of little Indie either, although he didn't have much to work with.

So, Shia LaBeouf, while promoting Transformers 2 was probed about Indy 5, and it sounds like it is definatly in the works. thie snippet is very very short check it out here (arround 1:50minutes in):

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/ent.....102103.stm

I heard somewhere that Harrison Ford was the highest paid actor last year with somthing like $40 million dollars from just the one film!? i supose they got it back in ticket sales a plenty!

But did we get enough from Indy 4 to warrent an Indy 5?

I'm actually less critical on this one compared to most other people, i thought indy 4 was great for the main part, it was only the wierd inclusion of aliens that dragged it to debate... wasnt it?

What do you lot think?

Should there be an indy 5?

Did you like indy 4?

OK, this is a bit like choosing your favourite turd from big pile of turd's...but could the mere concept of a scream re-boot be the worst reboot idea to date?

What is there to re-boot? They were fun films, very of the moment and great for Hollywood. but the progression in them was so tiny I'm not even sure what they could possibly have to write about? i think the fact that they are planning production this year and a release next year (a rush job) highlights that this could just be an attempt at a Hollywood smash and grab.

I havnt seen David Arquette in anything rcently but didnt Courtney Cox have a tv show recently? Dirt was it? did anyone watch it, and can they really be this desperate?

It has been confirmed by Tony Scott (Top Gun, Crimson Tide), Ridley's brother, that the new Alien film will be a prequal and cover the parts of the story we are interested in! (the crashed alien ship and where they origionally came from)

It does seem to be the trend at the moment to latch onto successful film brands - maybe its to try and secure "easier" funding?

I wouldn't be too worried - alot of the recent remarks have been good - Batman, Star Trek. I got too scared after Alien 3 to watch any more, but were the last two any good? If they weren't then surely this is even more of a reason to do more? Theres nothing to loose as they have already gone too far?

I'm speaking totally unbaised though as Alien isn't as sacred to me as it is to you Moon!

The news that all Sci Fi fans will be dreading! - Alien is being talked about for a re-boot style makeover….”AAAaaaaarrrggghh!”

Check out the full details here: http://www.bloody-disgusting.c.....news/16328

Although this prospect is truly horrifying, it might not be all that bad….Ridley Scott is suposedly involved in production (although no talk of James Cameron - we wish) and rather than a batman/startrek/Bond style reboot itcould focus on the origin of the LV-426 Aliens and in particular thier crashed ship!

Now, this does interest me in a big way, especially if its done right! However the project could be so frought with temptation to 'kidify' the story that i'm not holding my breath for this one.

What do you think?
