I think the film was pretty harmless and although spacey did nothing in particular wrong, this one just didn't seem to get close to his usual high quality. Maybe its too much to expect perfection every time...

Out of interest, Phil, what rating would you give it?

I liked it more than a 3/5. I thought spacey was excellent, but i thought the plot was fun and had a nice twist!

The span of ratings at film club was very varied - from as low as 2/5 to as high as 5/5 (that was me!) Its clear this film has causes quite a different reaction in today's world compared to when it was made.

I do think its a shame the 3.5 hour epic seems to have become unfashionable as i just cant get enough of them! Perhaps the Kill Bill/Hobbit/Harry Potter 7 style two-parter is the modern answer to a classic 'Epic'; if nothing else it should bring hollywood some extra revenues - i guess everyone is happy at the end of the day!

....except this Hamlet/Dances With Wolves/El Cid fan.

Watching this film is a very fun experience. And as it's the third in the installment of crude, smut films, I really didn't expect it to be anything other than obvious sex humour and extreme gross bits. The film does have these aplenty, but the believable characters and the well-crafted situations make it very enjoyable and more than just a cheap laugh.

It does everything it sets out to do, which is to entertain. 4 out of 5 from me.

The only reason why it doesnt get the full 5 is that there are characters in the film that are only there because they're in the first, and are lacking in things to do.

Can't agree more - this is a brilliant film - I would even rate it 4.5 or possibly 5.

Is the original really the best? I haven't seen this in a long while, but remember it had plenty of very dodgey sets and some strange abridged explanations of what has happened in the future.

I'd be interested to see this and the new version (with Samantha Mumba!) back to back and compare. I know the new one had plenty of dubois moments, and a buildup which was far too long, but I remember it having some really interesting scenes.
